  Highlights of reports received September 27 through October  4 from 
the Niagara Frontier Region include WHITE-EYED VIREO,  CACKLING GOOSE, 
waterfowl and fall migrants.

  October 4, an exceptional rarity for fall migration - a  WHITE-EYED 
VIREO at Tifft Nature Preserve in Buffalo.

  September 30, the region's second report this season of  CACKLING 
GOOSE - a single CACKLING GOOSE among numerous  CANADA GEESE at Mallard 
Overlook in the Iroquois Refuge.

  Waterbird migrants along Lake Ontario off Golden Hill State  Park in 
the Town of Somerset on September 29 included 13  waterfowl species. 
Highlights were 68 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS,  3 SURF SCOTERS, 8 BLACK 
SCOTERS and 81 RED-BR. MERGANSERS.  Also, 15 COMMON LOONS, 8 HORNED 
GREBES and 9 RED-NECKED  GREBES. In the Golden Hill Park, YELLOW-BILLED 
CUCKOO,  PILEATED WOODPECKER, HOUSE WREN, WINTER WREN, GRAY-CHEEKED  
THRUSH, SWAINSON'S THRUSH, HERMIT THRUSH, WHITE-THR. SPARROW  and 
WHITE-CR. SPARROW.

  September 28 in the Town of Porter, in the field at  
Youngstown-Wilson and Porter Center Roads, 32 AMERICAN  GOLDEN-PLOVERS 
among many KILLDEER, plus a MERLIN with prey  in the field. At Goose 
Pond in the Oak Orchard Wildlife  Management Area, GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 
LESSER YELLOWLEGS,  SEMIPALM. SANDPIPER, LEAST SANDPIPER, BAIRD'S 
SANDPIPER,  PECTORAL SANDPIPER and WILSON'S SNIPE.

  Other reports this week - at Amherst State Park, 16 YELLOW-
  B. SAPSUCKERS, 6 BROWN CREEPERS and 11 WINTER WRENS, plus  EASTERN 
WOOD-PEWEE, BLUE-HEADED VIREO, PHILADELPHIA VIREO,  MARSH WREN, 
LINCOLN'S SPARROW and abundant WHITE-THR.  SPARROWS.

  In a Williamsville yard, a total of 13 warbler species this  week 
included ORANGE-CR. WARBLER, CAPE MAY WARBLER and PINE  WARBLER, plus 
SCARLET TANAGER, DARK-EYED JUNCO, ROSE-BR.  GROSBEAK and PURPLE FINCH.

  And, at Birdsong Park, off Jewett Holmwood Parkway in  Orchard Park, 
RED-SHOULDERED HAWK and INDIGO BUNTING, plus  10 WOOD DUCKS, 
BLUE-WINGED TEAL, EASTERN PHOEBE, RED-EYED  VIREO, AMERICAN PIPIT, 5 
warbler species, 50 SONG SPARROWS,  25 SWAMP SPARROWS, RED-W. 
BLACKBIRD, 4 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS, 5  PURPLE FINCHES and 50 AMERICAN 
GOLDFINCHES.
