  February 22 through March 1 - a quiet week for reports from  the 
Niagara Frontier Region.

  February 28, an arriving COMMON GRACKLE in a yard in the  Town of 
Tonawanda, and on Grand Island, EASTERN BLUEBIRDS  and HOUSE SPARROWS 
vigorously competing for rights to a  nesting box.

  Waterbirds in Dunkirk Harbor this week were highlighted by  COMMON 
LOON, 8 PIED-BILLED GREBES, 6 HORNED GREBES, RED-
  NECKED GREBE, RING-NECKED DUCK, 13 SURF SCOTERS, 4 WHITE-
  WINGED SCOTERS and RUDDY DUCK, plus numbers of AMERICAN  BLACK DUCKS, 
CANVASBACKS, REDHEADS, GREATER SCAUP,  BUFFLEHEADS, COMMON GOLDENEYES, 
HOODED MERGANSER, COMMON  MERGANSER and RED-BR. MERGANSER. Also, GREAT 
BLUE HERON and  4 BALD EAGLES.

  March 1 on the east branch of the Niagara River, 1200  CANVASBACKS, 
small numbers of REDHEADS, 2 RING-NECKED DUCKS  and a RED-BR. 
MERGANSER. At the Lewiston Docks on the lower  Niagara River this week, 
36 vocalizing LONG-TAILED DUCKS.

  In the Lake Ontario Plains, both sub-species of HORNED  LARKS, plus 
LAPLAND LONGSPUR and SNOW BUNTING on Niagara-
  Orleans Countyline Road north of Route 18. And, at Golden  Hill State 
Park in Somerset, 2 LONG-EARED OWLS.

  There will be no Dial-a-Bird report until Thursday evening,  March 
15. Check the update section during this time, in   case any rare 
reports are received. You may report sightings  after the tone. Thank
