  VARIED THRUSH was the highlight of reports received February  8 
through February 15 from the Niagara Frontier Region.

  February 11, the VARIED THRUSH was reported again on private  
property in the Niagara County Town of Cambria.

  From the Lake Ontario Plains and Genesee County Town of  Bethany, 
several reports of NORTHERN and PRAIRIE-type HORNED  LARKS, LAPLAND 
LONGSPURS and SNOW BUNTINGS. The highlight  was 140 LAPLAND LONGSPURS 
on Niagara-Orleans Countyline  Road, north of Route 18.

  At Dunkirk Harbor this week, at least 16 waterfowl species  featuring 
9 SURF SCOTER and one each of WHITE-WINGED SCOTER  and LONG-TAILED 
DUCK. Also in the harbor, COMMON LOON, PIED-
  BILLED GREBE, HORNED GREBE, 3 TUNDRA SWANS, over 500  CANVASBACKS, 2 
LESSER SCAUP, 3000 COMMON MERGANSERS and a  BALD EAGLE.

  Another concentration of waterfowl this week, at the Mid-
  River Marina, on the east branch of the Niagara River, off  River 
Road in Tonawanda. Thirteen waterfowl species included  a high winter 
count of 130 LESSER SCAUP, plus GADWALL, RING-
  NECKED DUCK, SURF SCOTER and RUDDY DUCK. Also, gulls not  often found 
on the upper river - THAYER'S GULL, ICELAND GULL  and GLAUCOUS GULL, 
along with 17 GREAT BLUE HERONS, 2 BL.-
  CR. NIGHT-HERONS and 15 D.-CREST. CORMORANTS.

  NORTHERN FLICKERS, uncommon in winter, at feeders this week  on 
Luther Road in East Aurora and Woodbridge Avenue in north  Buffalo. On 
Francis Road in Bethany, a rare in winter  YELLOW-B. SAPSUCKER, plus 
HAIRY WOODPECKER, PILEATED  WOODPECKER and GREAT HORNED OWL.

  Other owls this week - BARRED OWL calling at Bond Lake Park  in 
Lewiston, LONG-EARED OWL at Golden Hill State Park in  Somerset, and 2 
SHORT-EARED OWLS on Bulmore Road in  Lockport.

  PEREGRINE FALCONS continue to be reported at the source of  the 
Niagara River in Buffalo - an adult over LaSalle Park  and a juvenile 
at the Peace Bridge.

  Also this week, 2 BROWN CREEPERS at a feeder on Ruie Road in  North 
Tonawanda, and 2 EASTERN BLUEBIRDS at Bond Lake Park.
